The Volta River Authority (VRA) was established on April 26, 1961 under the Volta River Development
Act, Act 46 of the Republic of Ghana, as a body corporate with the mandate to operate mainly as a power generation, transmission and distribution utility. In 2005, following the promulgation of a major amendment to the VRA Act in the context of the Ghana Government Power Sector Reforms, the VRA's mandate has now been largely restricted to generation of electricity

The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), a subsidiary of the Volta River Authority, whose mission is to procure electricity and distribute it efficiently, safely and reliably in the northern sector of Ghana in a commercially viable manner.
Job Description
The Volta River Authority requires the services of an experienced Knowledge Management (KM) professional for a short-term contract appointment as Manager, Knowledge Management.

Job Function:
The successful person will be expected to provide leadership in the establishment and management of the Knowledge Management function in Volta River Authority.
  • Develop and implement a Knowledge Management strategy to systematically gather, re-package, store and disseminate knowledge in a manner that eliminates duplication of efforts, re-invention of the wheel, and to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the VRA's operations
  • Design systems, policies and processes for effective implementation of the Knowledge Management function in VRA
  • Oversee the design, development and production of all VRA knowledge products and services
  • Facilitate the establishment of communities of practice and other knowledge forums for knowledge sharing and peer learning in the VRA
  • Liaise with various VRA departments and professional groups to translate key research outcomes into institutional knowledge as well as feed key lessons from the field into VRA's training plans and programs
  • Manage VRA's information clearing house and Knowledge Management data base and identify the tools and toolkits needed for enhanced knowledge utilisation within VRA
Terms of Contract: The appointment will be made for a period of two (2) years

Required Skills or Experience
Preference will be given to candidates with:
  • A Masters degree in relevant field
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the Knowledge Management function
  • Proven record of successful design and establishment of the Knowledge Management function in a large organisation
  • Outstanding communication (both oral and written), facilitating and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent leadership and organisation skills
  • A minimum of twelve (12) years relevant post-qualification work experience, five (5) years of which should have been at a Managerial level
